Musselman and Hall Contractors have been maintaining pavements for over 100 years. Beginning with resetting and leveling cobblestone pavers near the beginning of the 20th century, our experience and technology in pavement construction, preservation and rehabilitation has come a long way in dealing with the complexities of modern pavements. We strive to educate our customers on the value of their pavement and the importance of managing pavements as an asset rather than a liability. Customers who select Musselman and Hall to maintain their pavement receive much more than a You Buy It, We Seal It and Forget It service. Our pavement management philosophy process guides customers through 3 critical steps to assist them in making the right choices in pavement management: |
- The Pavement Lifecycle: Asphalt and concrete pavements are impacted by a host of variables that affect the number of years that pavement will provide useful service. Like a medical doctor performing a physical, pinpointing issues that may impact your life our staff of Professional Engineers are experts in identifying pavement distresses and their causes.
Considering pavement condition, goals and budget of the client we will prescribe the correct maintenance treatment and anticipated future maintenance requirements.
- Costs associated with the pavement lifecycle: The graph below exhibits a typical pavement’s lifecycle and costs associated with proactive and reactive maintenace stratigies.
Our goal is to keep our clients pavements in Excellent to Fair condition by prescribing a preventative maintenance plan that fits the expectations of the client.
We also have the capability to perform damage control in the way of reactive maintenance and reconstruction. These strategies are more expensive however when correctly implemented can move a pavement’s condition from poor to good.

- Strategies to achieve long pavement life with the low lifecycle cost:The final step in serving our clients is putting all the pieces of the puzzle together to provide recommendations leading to the lowest possible life cycle cost of the pavement while keeping it in the best possible condition.
We have a tool box full of pavement maintenance tools from basic crack seal, pavement sealants, thin overlays and full depth reclamation for asphalt and concrete to address a wide range of existing conditions.
