A&M Pet Supply Manufacturing Plant

Project Location: KC Metro

Project Description:
In the fall of 2017, M&H started expanding the number of tracks at the A&M Pet Supply Manufacturing Plant located in the KC Metro area. The number of tracks doubled from five to ten after replacing a semi-trailer parking lot since it was needed for the rail yard. Musselman & Hall relocated the trailer lot to the opposite side of the plant. The track installation work included mass excavation of soil and rock of fifteen foot thick limestone ledge. The work also included installation of soldier pile and segmental block retaining walls. M&H Concrete Superintendent Wes Skaggs and his crew built the concrete retaining walls. Under the supervision of Asphalt Foreman Dale Hetherington, the M&H asphalt team moved in to install a six inch thick asphalt base between a course of large stone aggregate rock and the sub ballast to stabilize the grade for the track. General Foremen Nik Perkins and Michael Thornton supervised the rail work for M&H which included 5,500 feet of new railroad track, five new turnouts, and the relocation of an existing turnout and overall track realignment of part of the existing rail yard. The project's consulting engineering services were led by Renaissance Infrastructure Consulting (RIC).
